A man who engaged Durham police in a standoff for about 90 minutes Friday morning walked out of his house and surrendered shortly before noon, police said.
The unidentified man was believed to be alone in the home at 2412 Highland Ave., and he had access to firearms, police said.

He called 911 during the incident, and dispatchers convinced him to go outside the house and surrender, said Kammie Michael, spokeswoman for the Durham Police Department.
Officers took the man to a mental health facility for an evaluation, Michael said.
