Drivers face slow go Tuesday afternoon

Drivers headed from downtown Raleigh to Cary and points west encountered delays Tuesday afternoon.

The state Department of Transportation closed the ramp from Interstate 40/440  west to U.S. highways 64 and 1 just before 5 p.m. due to a wreck. The ramp reopen at about 5:15 p.m., authorities said.

On Interstate 540, two westbound lanes were closed at milemaker 2, near the exit for Raleigh-Durham International Airport, while crews cleared car that had caught fire from the road. That situation was expected to be clear by 5:30 p.m., authorities said.
