Controversial Pinehurst traffic circle opens

After years of sparking controversy, a traffic roundabout in Pinehurst has finally opened.

State Department of Transportation crews uprooted long-leaf pine and dogwood trees to make way for a roundabout at the intersection of Carolina Vista Drive and N.C. Highway 2, angering local residents.

Those trees have been replanted and the roundabout opened to traffic.
