Business jet with 8 on board crashes at Maine airport

The Federal Aviation Administration says seven people were killed and a crew member survived with serious injuries when a private business jet crashed in a snowstorm at Maine's Bangor International Airport.

This morning investigators are combing through wreckage at Bangor International

Airport after a small jet crashed on the runway Sunday

night as it tried to take off

We have a passenger aircraft upside down 3 crew and

possibly 5 passengers

It happened just before 8 p.m. involving a small business

jet

The FAA confirms it was a Bombardier Challenger 600 with

8 people on board

Authorities though are not commenting on any fatalities or injuries

There's an active scene going on right now

We're doing our best to manage that

At the time of the crash visibility about 3/4 of

a mile with light snow falling

It's not clear whether weather played any role in the

crash

Airport authorities have urged the public to avoid Bangor International

for now ultimately closing its runway overnight as the investigation

gets underway

Meanwhile across the country that massive storm has been wreaking

havoc on air travel

More than 11,000 flights canceled nationwide Sunday surpassing records from

the peak of the COVID pandemic

The snow ice and Arctic temps also causing

Thousands of delays

It was delayed so I hope we can make the

flight

More than 90% of flights grounded at LaGuardia Airport in

New York and Philadelphia

Crews working to clear the runways in the Washington DC

area with DCA hit especially hard

The storm also affecting other major airports in the South

not typically impacted by severe winter weather
