Stolen vehicle rams Durham police car, leads officers on chase

The driver behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle led Durham officers on a chase Wednesday morning.

According to the Durham Police Department, officers tried to stop the vehicle in the 900 block of Liberty Street. The vehicle was stolen earlier from an address on Hillsborough Road, police said.

When officers approached the vehicle, the driver reversed the vehicle and rammed a Durham patrol car before fleeing, police said.

A chase began with the assistance of the Durham County Sheriff's Office and the State Highway Patrol.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver was taken into custody by troopers.

Sky 5 flew over the Liberty Street location where the driver was stopped. There were at least five patrol cars at the scene.
