The State Highway Patrol said a 2011 Porsche was going east at a high rate of speed and ran off the highway onto the right shoulder. According to the SHP, the driver over-corrected, reentered the road, crossed the centerline, ran off the road onto the left shoulder and hit a ditch and tree.

The Porsche then caught fire, the SHP said.

The SHP said the two people inside the Porsche died at the scene. Authorities have not released the names of the people until their families are notified.

Investigators believe speed and reckless driving were factors in the crash. The SHP said investigators aren't sure whether the people were wearing seatbelts or if alcohol was involved.
