FAA: Plane with engine issues lands on Greensboro interstate, person struck by car exiting aircraft

At least one person was injured after a plane touched down Wednesday on a busy Triad interstate.

According to the Greensboro Police Department, the Piedmont Triad Airport received a distress call around 7:55 p.m. from a single-engine Beechcraft BE35 experiencing mechanical failure. The plane made an emergency landing on I-840 westbound at the I-73 juncture.

Police said once the plane landed, a car traveling west made contact with the plane.

Two people were inside the plane at the time, and one of them sustained minor injuries. The person who was injured was treated at a local hospital.

Police said the driver of the car was unharmed.

The preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) describes the "aircraft experienced engine issues ... and landed on the interstate, a passenger exited the aircraft and was struck by a vehicle."

The NTSB is investigating the landing, and Greensboro police are investigating the crash.
