Arrest warrants show a man has been charged with the death of a child while driving impaired on an Eastern Carolina highway.

Details are limited at this time, but warrants obtained by WITN News say Edward Pope was driving under the influence of an impairing substance on N.C. Highway 903 over the weekend.

The arrest warrants say the 38-year-old from Belhaven was arrested Saturday by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol after his driving led to the death of a 7-year-old boy.

He’s been charged with felony death by motor vehicle and is in the Pitt County jail under no bond.
