Dog, man and boat rescued early Thursday morning from Jordan Lake

Chatham County authorities rescued a missing person and a dog early Thursday morning from Jordan Lake.

According to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a distress call on the lake related to a missing person, boat and dog.

Deputies said 42-year-old Ryan Odwyer called 911 around 3:31 a.m. Thursday and told dispatchers his friend, 30-year-old Cody Mannes, had fallen off of his boat and was missing in the lake’s waters. According to Odwyer, he jumped into the water to help Mannes while his boat drifted away with his dog still on it.

The sheriff’s office deployed drone and boat teams, along with N.C. Wildlife and N.C. State Parks, to find Mannes and retrieve him. All three groups managed to find Mannes, Odwyer’s boat and his dog.

No one was injured.

“We’re grateful for the quick response and teamwork shown by all agencies involved in this rescue,” said Sheriff Mike Roberson. “This incident is a reminder of the importance of safety and preparedness when out on the water.”
