A plane made an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport Thursday morning.

RDU said there were reports of smoke in the plane, which prompted the emergency landing.

"A commercial flight diverted to RDU due to reports of smoke inside the aircraft," RDU said. "The plane landed safely and is being towed to a gate."

No planes were able to land for about 10 minutes. Several planes were circling the airport during that time.

An American Airlines flight finally landed around 8:40 a.m. Sky 5 was live at the scene as the plane touched down.

Two fire trucks and several airport emergency vehicles surrounded the plane.

RDU said fire and emergency crews are at the scene to offer any aid that is needed for passengers and crew.
