Raleigh police on Sunday morning were investigating a shooting at a bar with a history of violent incidents.

StarBar, in the 1700 block of Trawick Road in east Raleigh, lost its liquor license in 2020 after a series of shootings and stabbings on or near the property. That license was reinstated in May 2021 and renewed in April 2024.

On Sunday, police were called to the bar just before 4 a.m. on a report that shots were fired. Minutes later, they were called to WakeMed Hospital, where two men walked in with what police called "serious gunshot wounds."

The bar and the hospital are just blocks apart.

Police did not identify the men who were wounded, and no arrests have been made. They asked that anyone with information call 919-996-1193 or leave an anonymous tip at www.p3tips.com/89.

The North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission suspended the alcohol license for StarBar in October 2020 noting that the bar averaged about 100 calls to police per year for things like drugs, assaults, disturbances and fights. When it was reinstated months later, the same person, Giovanni McDougald, was listed as the bar manager.
