Fayetteville mother charged with murder of adopted children transferred to state prison

The Fayetteville mother charged in the murder of her two adopted children was transferred to a different detention center, WRAL News has learned.

Around 5 p.m. Wednesday, authorities transferred Avantae Deven from the Cumberland County Jail to North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh, according to North Carolina Department of Adult Correction spokesman Keith Acree.

Deven is accused of abusing, torturing, killing and covering up the deaths of Blake and London Deven.

WRAL News is working to learn specifically why Deven got transferred. Deven is designated a "safe keeper." It means an inmate has security, health or mental health issues of some kind.

If a county can't manage these issues, a judge can sign an order to have the state system take custody of the inmate.

However, authorities could move Deven back to the Cumberland County Jail at any time. It depends on how the case plays out.
