Storms left thousands without power in the Triangle overnight

We saw widespread outages across the Triangle Wednesday morning after another round of overnight storms.

As of 2:15 a.m., more than 5,000 customers were without power in North Carolina; nearly 2,500 customers were without power in Orange County, and hundreds were affected in Wake and Durham counties.

The outage in Orange County was caused by an object coming into contact with the power lines. The estimated time of restoration is noon.

As of 5 a.m., those numbers were slightly down. There are still more than 1,000 customers without power in Orange County. Hundreds of customers are still without power in Durham County and Wake County.

Crews with Duke Energy worked all morning to restore power to several areas in Orange County.

As of 7 a.m., less than 10 customers in Orange County are still affected by the outage; more than 300 customers are still without power in Wake County and more than 100 remain without power in Durham County.
