We all know motherhood is special, but let's be real – it can be super chaotic too – understatement of the century, I know. A typical day can look like this: We get up early, empty the dishwasher, do some laundry, feed the dog, make breakfast, clean up, get the kids dressed and fed, go to work, pick up the kids, throw in more laundry, pay bills, water the plants, feed everyone dinner, clean up dinner, give them baths, make lunches, read a book, put them to bed, pass out! Then do it all over again the next day. And if we are fortunate enough we can even squeeze in a shower.
I’m exhausted just writing this.

With all the things we have to fit into our day, finding extra time may feel impossible. But with a few time-saving hacks, you can carve out those precious extra minutes and make your day a little smoother.
1. Meal Prep Like a Pro
Sunday afternoons are my meal prep time. I plan out the week's meals and do all the shopping. Then, I chop fruits and veggies, marinate meats, and even pre-cook some dishes. I also bag all the snacks for the week, making lunches much easier. This routine saves tons of time during the week and helps us eat healthier. Plus, having dinner ready quickly means less stress at the end of the day when someone inevitably asks, "What's for dinner?"
2. Embrace the Power of Lists
I live by my lists – grocery lists, to-do lists, packing lists. Some may consider it a bit much but without them, I would forget pretty much everything. For grocery lists, I keep a simple shared list on my phone. That way my family can add things and I have it at my fingertips no matter when I need it. For me, there's also something incredibly satisfying about crossing things off. Check!
3. Outsource Where You Can
I've learned the hard way that we can't do it all, and that's okay! Consider outsourcing tasks like house cleaning, grocery shopping, or even meal prep if your budget allows. You can also ask friends or family members for help – perhaps you can watch their kids one day, and they can return the favor another time. Getting help isn’t cheating, it’s a smart way to manage your energy.
4. Prioritizing and Batching Tasks Together
Here's a trick I learned a long time ago: prioritizing non-negotiable must-dos and batching similar tasks. Each day, I start with the three or four top priorities for that day. Then, I batch tasks like checking email a few times a day, running all errands in one trip, or folding all laundry at once. This helps provide focus and save a ton of time.
5. Use a Slow Cooker or Instant Pot
These amazing gadgets are a lifesaver for me. Just toss in your ingredients in the morning, and dinner is ready when you walk in the door. With millions of recipes available for everything from breakfast to dinner, it really is that easy. There’s nothing more satisfying than coming home to the delicious aroma of a home-cooked meal. Stew is my favorite!
6. Set a Timer for Tasks and Rabbit Holes
Setting a timer can make tasks feel more manageable. Try giving yourself 20 minutes to tackle the laundry or 10 minutes to clean up a room. It's incredible how much you can accomplish when you're racing against the clock.
This can also apply to scrolling on social media or reading the news. Get your fix but only for a limited time. After all, why should kids be the only ones with time limits?
7. Prioritize Self-Care
It's easy to put yourself last but remember, a happy mom means a happy family. Carve out time each day, even if it's just 15 minutes, to do something you love – read, meditate, take a hot bath or just enjoy a cup of tea. Taking care of yourself isn't selfish; it's essential.
Bonus Tip: Get the Kids Involved
Enlist your kids to help out with age-appropriate chores. It not only lightens your load but also instills a sense of responsibility and independence in them.
Cheers to all the multi-tasking supermoms out there – enjoy those few extra minutes you've earned!
