The filing period has closed for candidates who want to succeed Mary-Ann Baldwin as Raleigh's next mayor.

Baldwin announced in April that she would not seek a third term as mayor. Her term expires in December.

The filing period opened Friday, July 5 and ended July 19. Raleigh's municipal elections will be held Nov. 5.

Voters will choose Baldwin's successor, fill all eight seats on the city council, vote for five of nine seats on the Wake County Board of Education and pick a soil and water conservation board district supervisor in November.

Corey Branch, who represents southeast Raleigh on the city council, filed to run for mayor earlier in the filing period. But he told WRAL on July 17 that he was no longer running for the position. Branch will run for reelection in Raleigh City Council.
