The mother of a woman injured in a domestic violence incident said the man who intervened is a hero.
A'Naya Stancil was shot early Tuesday morning at her Drypoint Lane home in Cumberland County when her 30-year-old ex-boyfriend broke into her home, according to Stancil’s mother, Wanda Williams.

Stancil’s co-worker, Anthony David, 38, was also shot while trying to protect her. He used Stancil’s gun and fired back at Terrance Kerr, according to Williams.
“I’m grateful for him being there,” said Wanda Williams of David’s efforts. “I hate that the situation happened the way it did, that he ended up getting hurt also.
Kerr was also hit with gunfire, according to authorities.
“He was in the other room asleep, and I guess he heard a noise or something. He knew how to handle it and helped save her life."
Williams said Stancil even got protective court orders to protect herself from Kerr, who faces an attempted murder charge and other charges.
“I guess that didn’t matter,” Williams said.
Stancil and David should be released from the hospital soon, according to Williams.
Williams said she is looking forward to meeting David when he is released from the hospital to thank him.
Stancil’s family has set up a GoFundMe to help her cover medical expenses.
Kerr also remains in the hospital in critical condition.
Phoenix Center executive director Deanne Gerdes said domestic violence is a complicated issue.
“You try to go through the system and file for the domestic violence protective order and get away from him. and those are always good things,” Gerdes said. “That doesn't mean that's going to prevent domestic violence from happening."
