Police on Wednesday arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with a July 23 deadly shooting in Durham.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m. on July 23, officers responded to a shooting in the 1100 block of Holloway Street.

When officers arrived, they found Brandon Lamar Wiggins, 28, of Durham, with gunshot wounds. Wiggins was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

A week later, police charged Corey Juan Pettiford, 45, of Durham, with first-degree murder, possession of firearm by felon and resisting a public officer. He is currently being held in the Durham County Jail with no bond.

Police said they received a ShotSpotter alert related to the shooting.

Holloway Street was closed for several hours while police investigated the scene.
