Raleigh Police handed out free gun locks at the Triangle Shooting Academy today.

We’ve seen dangers of gun violence play out in our community every day.

This afternoon we got a chance to see a proactive way to help decrease the violence.

If you just put a gun lock on that firearm it will prevent it from going off
According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, from 2019 to 2021, the rate of firearm deaths among children and teenagers in North Carolina more than doubled.
On top of that, 162 guns were stolen from vehicles in Raleigh last year. And according to the state majority of guns kids are getting are not locked up.

“Across the state we see where guns are stolen from vehicles young people are getting their hands on firearms… so it is so important that fire arms are secure.”
Raleigh Police Department and Wake County Sheriff’s Office want to be part of the answers to stop the violence. They are prepared to hand out 1-thousand gun locks this year.

If you don’t have a gun lock officers say it is important to remove the magazine for the gun and store it in a safe place.//
