A man has been charged with street racing moments before a fatal, head-on crash in Granville County.

A Durham woman died Friday night in the crash near Creedmoor. Brenda Gregory was returning to Durham after an event that she attended with her son.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Gregory was driving on U.S. Highway 15 near Munns Road when a vehicle crossed the center line and hit her car.

Terell Myshawn Curry was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, speed competition, speeding and careless and reckless driving. Troopers estimated the car Curry was driving was estimated to be going 80 mph at the time of impact.

Gregory, who died on impact, was 66 years old. Friends confirmed to WRAL News that she worked at Sandy Ridge Elementary School in Durham.
