A Winston-Salem man is accused of pouring gasoline on his 72-year-old mother and setting her on fire after an argument, according the Winston-Salem Police Department.

James Wesley Parker, 48, was taken into custody Monday and charged with murder.

Authorities found Joanna Parker in flames on her front porch at her home on Lyons Street. She was transported by first responders to a local hospital where she died from her injuries, officials said.

Records show that James Parker lived with his mother at the home.

Joanna Parker's death was the 22nd homicide in the city so far this year. There have been two more homicides in the city of Winston-Salem this year compared to this time last year.

James Parker is at the Forsyth County Detention Center and is being held without bond. He had his first appearance in court on Tuesday.
