Weeks-long construction project changes traffic pattern in downtown Cary

Construction on a major route will change the traffic pattern in and around downtown Cary over the next month.

The work was scheduled to begin Monday but moved to Tuesday morning. When it begins, traffic will be reduced to one lane on Walnut Street between Kildaire Farm Road and Walker Street.

Inbound traffic will be detoured around the impacted area using Maynard Road or Byrum Street and Kildaire Farm Road.

The construction, occurring at the corner of of Kildaire Farm and Walnut Street through mid-May, is related to private development, according to the Town of Cary.

Signage and suggested detours are in place on Walnut Street, Kildaire Farm Road, Cary Towne Boulevard and Dry Avenue. The traffic pattern could evolve during construction, and additional traffic alerts will be issued as conditions change.
