Cold brew coffee is easier to make at home than you might think.
“Cold brew coffee, as the name suggests, is brewed with cold water instead of hot water and because of that it has to brew for a much longer period of time,” said Dan Wroclawski, home editor with Consumer Reports.

He says to make a great batch of cold brew, here's what you need:
- Two large lidded jars
- A coffee filter
- A funnel
- Your favorite coarsely ground coffee.
You’ll need a quarter pound, roughly one and a half cups for every three cups of cold water.
Mix the coffee and water until the grinds are saturated.
Then, let it steep for at least 12 hours at room temperature.
“Through that long brew process you end up with a coffee that is much less bitter, a little more rich and smoother,” Wroclawski said.
After steeping, grab that second jar, and slowly filter your brew through.
Cold brew is highly concentrated, so you’ll want to dilute it with water using a one-to-one or one-to-one-and-a-half ratio.
Then add your favorite mix-ins and enjoy.
Wroclawski says steeping your cold brew at room temperature helps extract a wider range of flavor.
You can do it in the fridge, but it takes longer, about 18 hours.
Either way, Wroclawski says it can be stored for up to two weeks in the fridge.
