Lewis Oatman and his family recently had to take cover while trying to enjoy a day in their backyard swimming pool.
Out of nowhere, bullets started flying.

"We were like, wait a minute, those are really loud," said Stephanie Lewis, Oatman's daughter, "and we hear them like pew, pew, pew by."
"The ones of us who could get behind the pool, got behind the pool while they were dialing 911," Oatman told WRAL News. "Others tried to make it in the house."
The Hope Mills man thinks the bullets are coming from people taking target practice in wooded areas near his home. He showed us the holes they've left in his back fence.
No one was hit, but at least one bullet left its mark.
"We walked out to go to the grocery store, and I was like, wait a minute, what is that on the car?" Lewis said. "And I said, 'Mom, a bullet hit your car!'"
They're not the only residents of the Fairwoods Forest community to experience bullets flying from the woods into their cars and houses.
Julie Brooks lives in a neighboring community. They recently had a close call while standing on their porch.
"I heard a pop, pop, pop, pop. And then I could hear the bullets come in between our house, pew, pew," Julie Brooks recounted. "I ran inside and got my husband."
Residents say authorities usually respond quickly when they're called about the shots. The wooded area is not a shooting range. But so far, police haven't been able to catch the shooters.
Authorities say they will put up a drone to see where these shots are coming from.
The good news is that so far, nobody has been hurt.
