Charges have finally been filed in a 'cold case' from 2015 – thanks to DNA technology.

In May 2015, a woman was raped after a man broke into her home, wearing a mask and wielding a knife.

Durham investigators from the Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit entered a DNA sample into the national Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), returning a positive result in November 2020.

Investigators charged 27-year-old Carlos Dominguez-Aguiar with first-degree rape and first-degree burglary.

Dominguez-Aguiar is already in prison, serving a 10-month sentence in Texas for illegal re-entry to the country.

The Durham warrants are scheduled to be served on Dominguez-Aguiar when he completes his sentence in Texas.
