Temperatures could reach the mid-80s Friday afternoon in the Triangle, serving up the warmest day in five months.

"We'll see increasing sunshine throughout the day. It's bright and dry throughout the daylight hours," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

While it will be warm, it is unlikely to top the March 20 record of 88 degrees in Fayetteville and Raleigh.

As showers approach, we will feel the humidity, too.

Pollen counts are high for trees and moderate for grasses on Friday, but any rain could dampen some of that effect.

The first band of isolated showers could pop up after 5 p.m., Gardner said. That pattern continues through the evening, with a 40% chance of isolated showers and temperatures only falling into the 60s overnight.

Today looks beautiful! Expect partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 80s. But by this evening a front approaches and a few showers roll in. Expect a few scattered showers again Saturday and Sunday with cooler temperatures.

The front that slides in Friday night will stick around over North Carolina through the weekend, keeping clouds and the chance for isolated showers in the forecast.

"It's not likely to pour for very long," Gardner said.

By Sunday, temperatures take a tumble. The early-morning low will be in the mid-40s, and it will only warm into the mid-50s, again with the chance for rain.

"Sunday is going to be fairly cloudy and noticably cooler," Gardner said.
