A fight between at least two inmates at Orange County Detention Center on Wednesday evening left one dead.
Officials said they transported 35-year-old Maurice Antoine King, who was from Durham, to Duke University Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries.

King was a federal inmate, who was in the detention center as part of an agreement between Orange County and the US Marshals.
When the marshals notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation about King’s death, the FBI requested the Sheriff’s Office conduct the investigation.
Investigators are interviewing all involved parties. They believe King and several other inmates had a verbal altercation. The matter escalated between King and at least one other inmate.
