Fit4Mom Midtown Raleigh recently launched an effort to reach out to new moms who often live their first weeks of motherhood in social isolation. It's called the New Mama Cafe, and the next one is set for 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Dec. 12, at Transfer Company Food Hall in downtown Raleigh.
Fit4Mom, which provides workout and social programs for moms at all stages of momhood, offers Prenatal Fit4Baby at Rex and WakeMed North hospitals.

"We're pretty in tune with what expecting and new moms need and want these days," owner Missy Currin, a mom of three and former labor and delivery nurse, tells me. "My team and I noticed that our Prenatal FIT4BABY graduates, all new moms, spend their first six weeks of baby's life adjusting to their new role as mom, healing from their birth and navigating sleepless nights ... in social isolation. They want to know how a mom supposed to meet other mamas in the same stage of motherhood when they're not able to go to a mommy and me class yet, or return to their usual social supports in the workplace, places of worship or even the gym."
So they launched the New Mama Cafe, a monthly meetup that's free and open to the community and rotates to coffee shops and lunch spots around town. This month, on Dec. 12, you'll be able to find them near (the really yummy) Benchwarmer Bagels. Just look for the group of strollers, moms and babies. All are welcome, but the meetup is designed for moms with babies less than one year of age.
