Willoughby was a reporter and anchor at North Carolina News Network.
He hosted a call-in program with Gov. Jim Hunt and election night coverage, and he was on the scene at Camp Lejeune when George W. Bush visited in 2003.
“There were the times I felt I was in the bubble covering appearances by presidents, to stand there in awe of a world power,” he said. “I will never forget the sight when I covered President Bush’s trip to Camp Lejeune and I stood there as Air Force One circled just over our heads.”
Before coming to CBC, Willoughby and his wife spent three years in the U.S. Army, mostly in Seoul, South Korea.
He retired in from CBC in June 2009.
