Cary man charged with statutory rape

A Cary man has been charged with having sex with an underage girl, according to an arrest warrant.

Eric Benjamin Holcombe, 37, of the 800 block of Modena Drive, was charged Tuesday with two counts of statutory rape of a child. He was released after posting a $1 million bond.

Holcombe had sex with a 15-year-old girl last year, according to the warrant.

Investigators started looking at the case last year after the girl and her parents told Cary police she had been exchanging sexually explicit images with Holcombe on a chat app and that he met her at her home in November for a sexual encounter.

In December, Holcombe was charged with third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. In January, he was charged with first-degree exploitation of a minor.

Pending his trial, he is ordered not to have any direct or indirect contact with the girl, and he is prohibited from being around anyone 18 or younger without supervision, according to court documents.
