State lawmakers held session in the State Capitol on the 75th anniversary of D-Day to honor the North Carolina service members who died during the Normandy invasion as well as nine living World War II veterans.
After those sessions, a House committee approved maps for Wake County House districts that were drawn by a court-appointed expert after judges threw out the maps drawn by lawmakers two years ago as unconstitutional.

Coincidentally, documents recovered from the hard drives of the late Republican map-maker Thomas Hofeller allegedly show that Hofeller drew the 2017 legislative maps – statewide, not just Wake County – months ahead of when GOP lawmakers said they had been drawn. Rep. David Lewis, R-Harnett, who leads redistricting efforts in the legislature, denied the claims by Common Cause, which essentially accused lawmakers of lying to the courts during lawsuits over the maps.
Finally, former state NAACP leader Rev. William Barber was found guilty after a three-day jury trial of second-degree trespassing at the Legislative Building during a 2017 protest. Barber, who was sentenced to a year on unsupervised probation, 24 hours of community service and a $200 fine, is appealing the verdict.
