Five Fayetteville postal workers charged with stealing drugs from mail to sell

Five postal workers from Fayetteville have been charged with intercepting packages containing marijuana so they could sell the drugs themselves, authorities said Thursday.

Kelvin Donnell Johnson, Khadir Elijah Beamon, Timothy Lydell Jones, Carvis Charles Marable and Brandon Darnell McneIll were indicted on charges of conspiracy to distribute marijuana and theft of mail.

All five work at the Fayetteville Processing and Distribution Center Annex, and investigators say they snagged packages coming through the center between October 2017 and February to sell the marijuana they found inside.

Authorities didn't say how the men were able to figure out which packages contained drugs.

The drug conspiracy and the mail theft charges each carry maximum penalties of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
