After a cold morning Friday, with a frost or freeze in many areas, temperatures are expected to turn more moderate across the Northeast and the Ohio Valley. A breeze from the south and southwest will help usher in some milder air.

Cool air and low humidity will persist from the Carolinas to areas near Florida. Clouds, showers and thunderstorms are projected to extend from the Gulf Coast to the Florida Peninsula. Cooler air is expected to reach the Southeast later this weekend and into next week.

Clouds and rain are expected from Texas to Michigan. Some of the rain may be heavy enough to aggravate flooding in Texas. A few thunderstorms may develop along the Texas coast as cooler air moves into the region. The heavy rain should ease later this weekend and early next week, but a mass of much colder air moving into the Plains by the middle of next week will allow the rain to return. As colder air arrives, parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan can expect snow showers tonight and this weekend.

Much of the West can expect dry weather and sunshine. Any storms should either pass by to the north over Canada or move to the southeast over Mexico and Texas.

FOCUS: Persistent Flooding in Texas

Persistent rain across parts of Central and East Texas will result in continued flooding in the region. Milder air will move into the Northeast. It will be windy across the Great Lakes. Mild, calm and sunny weather is expected for much of the West.
