Thursday will feel more like mid- to late November than October in the Northeast, with temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below average. The cool conditions will be a sharp contrast from the first part of the month, when temperatures averaged 8 to 16 degrees above normal. Gusty winds will continue into the morning but should ease later in the day along with snow showers over the interior.

Cooler air is expected to move into the Gulf Coast and the Florida Peninsula, bringing an end to the recent record-challenging warmth. Showers will riddle parts of Florida.

Rain is projected to increase over Texas and the southern Plains. Enough rain may fall to aggravate flooding across the area. Lighter showers are expected for much of New Mexico. Much of the rest of the West can expect plenty of sunshine. Light winds will prevail across much of Southern California, following Santa Ana winds from earlier in the week.

Milder air will extend over the northern Plains and the Midwest, ahead of a strong influx of cold air and gusty winds projected to move across the region on Friday and into the Northeast weekend. The cold air should usher in lake-effect snow showers, with some possible accumulation.

FOCUS: Possible Renewed Flooding

Tropical moisture will spread back up into Texas on Thursday into Friday, which may result in steady rain. The rain could be heavy enough to cause renewed flooding in the same areas that experienced flooding earlier in the week.
