An area of low pressure moving through the Ohio Valley will continue to spread rain, some heavy, throughout the Northeast on Sunday. The heaviest rain will lead to flooding across Ohio through central Pennsylvania.

Showers and thunderstorms will extend southward through the Tennessee Valley all the way into Texas along an associated cold front. Some of the showers and thunderstorms in central Texas will contain heavy downpours resulting in localized flash flooding.

A cold start to the day for upstate New York and northern New England is expected, with some areas experiencing the first frost of the season. Afternoon thunderstorms may pop up through the Southeast, but a lot of the day and much of the area will remain rain-free.

The Southwest will continue to bake under high pressure with high temperatures in the triple digits from Southern California through southwestern Arizona. Coastal areas will also run above average.

The next low pressure will start to spread showers into parts of the Pacific Northwest, but a batch of steadier rain will pass through Sunday night. Florence will continue to track west through the Atlantic and is expected to affect part of the East Coast later in the week.

Focus: Flood Threat Continues

Downpours are also expected across the upper Ohio Valley and central Appalachians on Sunday. In addition to causing disruptions to travel and outdoor events, the downpours can cause flash flooding and road closures in some communities.
