Moore sheriff candidate charged with DWI

The Democratic candidate for Moore County sheriff has been charged with driving while impaired.

Michael Dwayne Connor, 55, was arrested by a State Highway Patrol trooper in Montgomery County after a crash Friday night.

The arrest marks his second driving-related incident in recent months.

In July, Connor was cited in a hit-and-run in an Alcoholic Beverage Control store parking lot. He issued a statement at that time, saying he didn't know he had hit another vehicle until officers called him.

Connor is a former police chief in Aberdeen. He is running against Republican Ronald Fields and Stephen Adams, an unaffiliated candidate, in the November election.
