One of the ways you can help make the biggest impact for homeless pets is to give – money and goods – to your local animal shelter.

While some animal shelters are taxpayer-funded, some private shelters and rescue groups are donor-funded. For non-profit groups, how many animals they can save and the amount of staff they can provide all depend on donations. Shelters can also benefit from people donating items on their “wish lists” such as cleaning supplies and specified brands of kitten and puppy food.

                    Volunteer your time

                    Many shelters foster out pets waiting for that fur-ever home. If you can't make a lifetime commitment, consider offering a temporary home to a pet in need.

                    You can also volunteer time at your local animal shelter to help with cleaning, administrative tasks and even cuddles.
