An award-winning craft brewery launching its own distillery.

Lonerider Brewing Company announced the creation of its sister brand, Lonerider Spirits, on Monday. The distillery will be releasing its first product, a sherry cask finished bourbon whiskey, this fall in North Carolina. Following its debut, the whiskey will eventually be released in the eight other states where Lonerider Brewing is already available. A second spirit is expected to be released next year.

“The whiskey market was the logical next step for us, given our love of craft beer, craft spirits, and current consumption trends for premium products,” Lonerider Spirits chairman and Lonerider Brewing CEO Sumit Vohra said in a prepared statement. "Lonerider Spirits is unique in that we can leverage the brand halo and distribution system built by the Lonerider brewery over nine years to immediately scale to today’s demand for high-quality craft-distilled products.”

Lonerider Spirits will be creating unique whiskies from several of its popular beer recipes, including Sweet Josie Brown Ale, official said. All products will be bottled at a distillery in Durham. Lonerider's beer is brewed at a facility in Raleigh.

To help fund the project, Lonerider Spirits launched a Kickstarter campaign this summer. The goal is to raise $20,000 to be used toward the company's first year production and marketing costs. Supporters will receive swag and have access to exclusive experiences.
