If you were driving through Raleigh this weekend, you may have noticed more lane closures on Capital Boulevard near downtown.
As a result of the bridge replacement project, southbound Capital Boulevard between the Wade Avenue exit and Peace Street was closed until noon on Monday.

Lanes were supposed to reopen earlier on Monday, but, according to officials with the N.C. Department of Transportation, weather and mechanical delays have delayed the project.
"Mechanical issues and a weather delay have forced contractors to extend the weekend closure of a section of southbound Capital Boulevard through Monday morning," officials said in a press release. "Crews are working hard and hope to have the roadway open by noon. Because the closure goes beyond the time allowed in the project contract, a penalty of $10,000 per each additional hour of closure can be imposed on the contractor."
Lanes closures on Capital Boulevard started Friday night, when crews diverted southbound traffic at the Wade Avenue exit. At that point, drivers could either head down West Street to Peace Street or stay on Wade Avenue.
The DOT announced last week they'll only need to close lanes near the Peace Street bridge at night-time for the duration of the project.
