A weak storm will produce clouds, showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday across the Northeast. The rain may be heavy in some parts of New England. Storms from the Middle Atlantic to the central Appalachians and parts of the Midwest may produce downpours, resulting in urban flooding. There may also be gusty storms in a few spots from Illinois to New Jersey.

Another sunny day with low humidity is in store for much of the Southeast. High pressure will build slowly southeast from Tennessee to the southern Appalachians. Higher humidity, showers and thunderstorms will prevail from the Florida Peninsula to parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. Some of the storms may be severe.

Heat will persist from much of the central and southern Plains to the interior Southwest, because of a northern bulge in the jet stream. Expect some cooling showers and thunderstorms from parts of Idaho to Montana and North Dakota.

Much of the Pacific Coast can expect a cool day, with a sea breeze. Low clouds may be stubborn to break along the immediate coast. Inland areas will be warmer.

A northwest flow of cooler and less humid air is expected to prevail across the Great Lakes and Northeast for much of this week. Showers or thunderstorms may occur as a few fronts move through the region. Hot and humid air will shift into the Plains.
