A large storm system will continue to pass across the South on Sunday with heavy rain and thunderstorms. As low pressure moves into Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, thunderstorms will become quite heavy in the afternoon with localized wind gusts of up to 50 mph, blinding downpours and potential waterspouts along the Gulf Coast.

Rain will extend as far north as Kansas City in the morning, but should stay south of St. Louis. A few showers will arrive later in the day in Georgia. Some showers and thunderstorms will pop up across the Florida Peninsula, but the worst and more dangerous storms will be west of Tallahassee.

There will be little precipitation across the country outside of the storm system. A spotty thundershower is possible in southern Idaho and northeastern Nevada, but most of the day is expected to be rain-free. Sunshine will be plentiful throughout the West.

Aside from clouds near the Great Lakes, the Northeast through the northern Plains will have plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will continue to warm up by a few degrees with most areas near, if not above, average.

Focus: Rain to Soak Southeast

Heavy rain is likely to soak the Tennessee Valley and southern Eastern Seaboard on Monday. While isolated flooding is possible, the most far-reaching impact will be disruptions to outdoor and travel plans. Strong storms may erupt across Florida.
