A large storm system will be moving from the Midwest into the Ohio Valley for the second half of the weekend. This storm will bring adverse weather from the Upper Midwest and parts of the Northeast down to the Gulf of Mexico.

Mild air will proceed the storm, bringing temperatures well above normal from eastern Florida to eastern Pennsylvania. However, a cold front will sweep through with potent thunderstorms. These storms, especially those from the Tennessee and North Carolina border down to Tampa, Florida, will have the potential to be severe with flash flooding and damaging winds. These storms will move eastward, but lose some of their strength throughout the night. Meanwhile, cold air north of the storm will allow for precipitation to fall as snow across Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, and as ice for parts of Michigan and upstate New York. All of these types of precipitation have the potential to cause travel delays.

High pressure in the center of the country will make for dry weather across the Plains and into the Southwest. However, another storm will reach the Pacific Northwest, bringing rain and mountain snow from Washington and western Montana to Northern California.

FOCUS: Cold to Invade Eastern U.S. this Week

Behind the storm system bringing heavy rainfall to the mid-Atlantic and severe storms to the Southeast this weekend, is a surge of colder air that will chill the Northeast early this week. Temperatures will struggle to reach normal low temperatures in spots by Tuesday.
