Ford has issued a voluntary recall affecting 3.6 million cars and trucks with cruise control made between 1992 and 2003, the company announced.

The recall gives owners an opportunity to have dealers replace speed-control deactivation switches because there could be a fire risk, Ford said.

The change is a quick repair, Ford said, and is free. Parts are available now for trucks. Parts for cars should be available in early October, the company said.
