When lawmakers hold a special session in January, will they take action on anything?

The House and the Senate don't agree on efforts to redraw voting districts for trial court judges and local prosecutors, and there also is disagreement on how to handle GenX contamination in the Cape Fear River.

As the Senate rolled out its judicial voting maps this week, the North Carolina Democratic Party filed suit to challenge legislation passed in October canceling judicial primaries in 2018.

Meanwhile, some social justice groups are challenging the size and scope of court fees, saying fines are supposed to go to school districts, according to the state constitution, but dozens of groups have tacked on their own fees to the growing cost of court for criminal defendants,
