Law enforcement officials in Vance County had to leave a parade route and leap into action Saturday. The pilot of a Cessna 172 crashed the plane while trying to land it at the Oxford-Henderson Airport.

The crash, which occurred about a quarter of a mile north of the airport, was very close to the site of the Henderson Christmas parade, which was underway at the time.

Rescue crews were able to save the pilot and a passenger who were on their way in from Pennsylvania. Both were able to walk away from the crash.
