Significant Snowfall Possible in Triangle This Weekend

The possibility of a significant snowfall is part of the Triangle's cold weekend forecast.

WRAL Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner says there is a chance of snow starting late Saturday night, possibly continuing into Sunday.

Meteorologists are watching a low pressure system developing off the North Carolina coast, helping to provide moisture for the system. The snow could change to sleet or freezing rain before ending late Sunday.

One of the major players helping to fuel the wintry weather is an upper level system just south of the Great Lakes region through the Ohio Valley.

Another is a high pressure system to the north and east that will supply us with cold air.

East of the Triangle, the precipitation may be a sleet/freezing rain mix, with less snowfall.
