Community activist Ray Price, owner of Ray Price Harley-Davidson, died in his sleep Wednesday night, according to spokesman David Chatham. He was 78.
Price organized the annual Capitol City Bikefest, which attracted more than 100,000 visitors to downtown Raleigh each September. He was also instrumental in campaigns for Toys for Tots and other charities. Friends and family said that Price was involved in some type of charity ride or event nearly every weekend.

Wednesday, December 16, 2015Price was acclaimed in the motorcycle drag racing community and a member of multiple halls of fame, including the American Motorcycle Hall of Fame. He was also actively involved in the Ray Price Motorsports Racing Team in Raleigh.
Price, a Johnston County native, is survived by his wife, Jean; his daughter, Robin; and two grandchildren.
"Today we mourn the passing of a tremendous man, a dedicated husband and parent, and a legend in motorsports," said Mark Hendrix, general manager of Ray Price Inc. "Ray Price was a North Carolina icon with a huge heart, an unwavering passion for sharing his love of motorcycling, and a dedication to philanthropy and community service."
Funeral arrangements had not yet been made.
