Cyberstalking case locks down Lee High

Lee County High School was locked down briefly Thursday while deputies investigated a case of cyberstalking, officials said.

A student told school resource officers she had received a threatening text message on her phone from someone she didn’t know. She said she had denied a friendship request by the person only to receive the threatening message, which contained personal information about her, according to investigators.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office determined a Wake County student had sent the message. That student admitted he didn’t know the Lee High student and had gotten the personal information from her social media pages.

Investigators said no one at Lee High was in danger.

Juvenile cyberstalking charges will be filed Friday against the Wake County student, authorities said.
