Wilson man charged with murder, child abuse in 1-year-old's death

A 26-year-old Wilson man was arrested and charged Tuesday in the death of an one-year-old, police said Wednesday night.

Melvin Eugene McNeil Jr., 26, of “104 Spruce Street SW at 1705 Tarboro Street SW,” is charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse. He was held in the Wilson County jail Thursday under no bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

Officers responded to 104 Spruce Street SW on Jan. 9 regarding the child being in cardiac arrest. The child later died at Wilson Medical Center.
