A Durham Area Transit Authority bus is a total loss, a city spokesman said, after the engine caught fire Tuesday night outside the Durham Performing Arts Center on Mangum Street.
About 15 people and the bus driver were on board when the fire broke out just before 9 p.m. All got off without incident and no one was hurt.

Firefighters used about 1,000 gallons to put the fire out. They were still investigating the cause late Tuesday night.
