BlockFest, an award-winning early childhood math and science program, will return to Raleigh for several free sessions for kids 6 and under and their adults.
The program, developed by the University of Idaho Parents As Teachers Program, focuses on block play and how that can help a child learn math and science concepts. I took my younger daughter a few years ago and we had a blast. It's a great reminder that play with simple toys - like wooden blocks - is wonderful for a child's development.

The program is at Project Enlightenment, Wake County's early childhood learning and intervention program. It's at 501 S. Boylan Ave., near downtown Raleigh.
BlockFest will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 23; 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Oct. 23; and 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Oct. 24.
It's free, but registration is required. Children must be with an adult at all times. And the kids need to have socks on to participate. Sessions will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
